Non-commercial kitchen facilities located in a private home and operated by a resident of the home where ready-to-eat food is handled, stored, prepared, or offered for sale in Summit County.
What is a microenterprise home kitchen?
“Microenterprise home kitchen” means a non-commercial kitchen facility located in a private home and operated by a resident of the home where ready-to-eat food is handled, stored, prepared, or offered for sale.
“Microenterprise home kitchen” does not include:
- a catering operation
- a cottage food operation
- a food truck
- an agritourism food establishment as defined in Section 26-15b-102
- a bed and breakfast
- a residence-based group care facility
What type of foods can micro-kitchens sell?
Ready to eat meals:
- raw animal food that is cooked
- raw fruits and vegetables that are washed
- fruits and vegetables that are cooked for hot holding
- a time or temperature control food that is cooked to the temperature and time required for the specific food in accordance with rules made by the department in accordance with Title 63G, Chapter 3, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act
- a bakery item for which further cooking is not required for food safety

If you do not have commercial space or equipment this allows you to operate under certain conditions and still provide a service.
How do you get a microenterprise home kitchen permit?
You can call Giovanna at 435-333-1502 or visit our website www.summitcountyhealth.org. If visiting the website, look for the permits tab and click on it. Then find the microenterprise home kitchen tab. This will take you to the permitting site and enter the information in the application for review.

- $364 Operational Permit and $182 Kitchen Operational review. These fees must be paid before operating.
